Many families still haven't installed DD Free Dish due to the non-availability of 24-hour cartoon TV channels on the platform. So Doordarshan will fill this gap in the form of the DD Kids TV channel.

What are the 22K and Horizontal / Vertical signals in the DD Free dish Box?

22KHz in DD Free dish -

If you are using Ku-Band LNB then it is already inbuilt 22KHz Tone control, which automatically scans Ku-Band satellite TV channels from the Lower band ( 09750) to the upper band (10600) LNB frequency.

A Universal LNB has a switchable local oscillator frequency of 9.75/10.60 GHz to provide two modes of operation -

• Low band reception (10.70–11.70 GHz) 
• High band reception (11.70–12.75 GHz)

The local oscillator frequency is switched in response to a 22 kHz signal superimposed on the supply voltage from the connected DD Free dish receiver.

The "Universal" DD Free dish LNB switches polarisation with voltage but it also switches its internal oscillator for "High Band 10600" when it "hears" a 22kHz tone. Specifically, the oscillator changes from 9750 MHz to 10600 MHz.

If your LNB is not switching the internal oscillators automatically then you can use a 22KHz switch. the 22KHz analog tone switches automatically switch between two LNBs or lower and upper bands which allows reception from multiple satellites with any 22KHz compatible receiver.

If you are using a 22KHz switch then you have to create two satellites in your DD Free dish free-to-air set-top box, in the first Satellite 22KHz is put ON manually, and in another satellite, it should be in OFF condition. Now scan both satellites by using blind scan/auto scan function with FTA mode ON.

a 22k switch can be also used in place of a 2x1 Diseqc switch if you are using two dish antennas in the single set-top box to receive satellite TV channels from different-2 angles. But if you are using Universal LNB then no need to use a 22KHz switch. This trick is only for C-Band LNBFs.

Horizontal and Vertical signal in DD Free Dish -

If the supply voltage from your set-top box going up to the DD Free dish LNB is less than 13 volts, the LNB will "see" only vertically polarised signals. If the voltage is more than 15-18 volts, it will "see" only horizontally polarised signals. So when you are selecting in your set-top box "Vertical" it means you are selecting 13 volts, and If you are selecting "Horizontal" it means you are selecting an 18-volt power supply.

The satellite TV channels allotment will be done using the 56th online e-Auction process.

The 56th online E-Auction will be tentatively held on the afternoon of 24th December 2021.

Which Satellite TV channels can Participate?

Only satellite channels licensed by the Ministry of I&B for downlinking in India would be allotted slots on DD Free Dish. Only license holder company or their authorized distributor partners can apply for allocation of DD Free Dish slot.

In case the applicant company is other than a licensee, the document/agreement signed between license Holder Company and Applicant Company authorizing the applicant/bidder for distribution of the channel and bidding on behalf of the licensee must be submitted.

International TV channels -

International Public Broadcasters licensed/registered/permitted by the Ministry of I&B can also participate in Prasar Bharati 56th online e-auction.

DD Freedish MPEG-2 Vacant slot Price -

The e-auction will be Bucket-wise starting with the bucket having the highest reserve price i.e from Bucket ‘C’ and will progressively go down in the order of reserve price, as given in the table below, subject to availability of slot.

How to apply to add a TV channel in DD Free Dish?

Interested broadcasters may apply online at https://fdslots.prasarbharati.org and upload all requisite documents as prescribed in the application. Please note that it is mandatory to pay the non-refundable processing fee of Rs.25,000/- online at the above portal to submit the application. The participation fee of Rs. 1.50 Crore (Rupees one crore fifty lakhs only) is to be paid only through Demand Draft. A copy of the participation fee demand draft is to be uploaded online.

For unsuccessful bidders, the participation fee will be refunded within three weeks after the declaration of the results of the 56th e-auction. For successful bidders, the participation fee will be adjusted in the final installment of the carriage fee/bid amount.

Successful Channels will be required to arrange their own IRD Box in advance at DTH Earth Station, Todapur, New Delhi, India to place their Channel on DD Free Dish Platform.

Prasar Bharati invites applications for allotment of MPEG-4 slots of DD Free Dish DTH Platform for the period from 01.04.2022 to 31.03.2023 through the 4th annual e-auction process (57th e-auction) to be tentatively held from 10.02.2022.

Only satellite channels licensed by the Ministry of I&B would be allowed to participate in the e-auction. Only companies holding valid permission from the Ministry of I&B or their authorized distributor partners can apply for participation in e-auction for allocation of DD Free Dish slot. In case the applicant company is other than a licensee, the document/agreement signed between license Holder Company and applicant company authorizing the applicant/bidder for distribution of the channel and bidding on behalf of the licensee must be submitted.

The Last Date for submission of applications and original Demand Draft is 08.02.2022 (Tuesday) latest by 03.00 P.M.

Yes, International Public Broadcasters licensed by the Ministry of I & B can also participate in e-auction.

Which STB can receive DD Freedish's MPEG-4 TV channels? -

At this time any MPEG-4/HD satellite receiver can receive DD free dish MPEG-4 TV channels. But Prasar Bharati reserves all rights to restrict access of MPEG-4 signals to unauthorized STBs at any point in time. After that these MPEG-4 TV channels will be available only in i-CAS enabled MPEG-4 Set-Top Boxes.

How can add my TV channel to DD Free dish DTH?

Interested Satellite TV broadcasters may apply online at https://fdslots.prasarbharati.org and upload all required documents as prescribed in the application. Please note that it is mandatory to pay the non-refundable processing fee of Rs.25,000/- online at the above portal to submit the application. The participation fee of Rs. 10.0 Lakhs (Rupees ten lakhs only) is to be paid only through Demand Draft. A copy of the participation fee demand draft is to be uploaded online.

What are the charges to add a TV channel in the MPEG-4 slot?

Bidding in the Prasar Bharati 4th annual e-auction (57th e-auction) of MPEG-4 slots will be open to all genre (language) Channels at the reserve price of Rs. 50.0 Lakhs/annum. Online training will be provided to all eligible participants before the commencement of the actual e-Auction. 

Non-refundable processing fee of Rs.25,000/- is to be mandatorily paid online at https://fdslots.prasarbharati.org before submission of application.

If required, Prasar Bharati can extend the e-Auction to the next day or as the case may be. Prasar Bharati also reserve the right to accept/reject/cancel/amend the e-Auction/slot at any time during the e-Auction or after e-Auction

If not won a slot on DD Free dish -

Prasar Bharati reserve the right to accept/reject/cancel/amend the e-Auction/slot at any time during the e-Auction or after e-Auction

If won slot on DD Free dish -

Every successful bidder will be required to sign an Agreement with Prasar Bharati in two original copies within 15 days of the issue of the Letter of Allotment. The prescribed format of the Agreement is available on the website https://prasarbharati.gov.in. 

Successful channels will be placed on vacant Logical Channel Numbers (LCNs) of DD Free Dish. After completion of e-auction, a successful channel may apply giving three options in the order of preference for allotment of LCN. However, this does not guarantee for placement of a successful channel on preferences given for LCN. All such requests shall be considered by Prasar Bharati in accordance with the prescribed

procedure for allotment/change of LCN to private TV channels, which is available on the website https://prasarbharati.gov.in. Prasar Bharati’s decision in this regard shall be final. 

Successful Channels will be required to arrange their own IRD Box in advance at DTH Earth Station, Todapur, New Delhi, to place their Channel on the DD Free Dish Platform.
